I am posting a painting I just finished that is also a part of the Weekly Artist Challenge. The original photo was one I submitted in August of my son, quite a few years ago, while at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. After the initial sketch I lost the feeling for the painting, but the work I have been doing in the last few weeks, exploring texture, helped me get back into the frame of mind to finish it. Once I dug in, I remembered how fun it is to sometimes let go, not trying to go for exact reality. All the while experimenting using different colors than normally would be used in portraiture to capture the New Orleans atmosphere!
